We are one of the largest construction service providing companies and therefore we come across various kinds of people trying to get into the UK construction industry. Most of the people are in a hurry so that they can join as soon as possible and start earning good amount of money. Well, sadly you can't directly get into construct work as a newbie. You would first require a CSCS Card. There are different CSCS Card types and to qualify for these cards, different test are taken, one being the quite common one, CSCS Operatives Test.

Before we begin let's answer the most commonly asked question, what is this CSCS? Well, CSCS stands for Construction Skills Certification Scheme. As per the rules set by the government of UK you require a CSCS Card to get in any sort of construction work. This came more into action after the decline of the Oil and Gas Sector in 2014 and as a result, a lot of workers started moving into different industries and the most common being the construction industry. Basically, a CSCS Card acts as a proof of identity and displays that you have the necessary knowledge and skills to perform your tasks efficiently in a safe manner.

 

THE DIFFERENT CSCS CARD TYPES:

There are total 12 CSCS card types, each having a distant colour portraying different meaning. Let's check them out:

 

GREEN CSCS CARD

This is the entry level card which is used for a general labourer. If you want to get this card then you would have to seek an employer's recommendation.

 

BLUE CSCS CARD

If you are a person who has achieved apprenticeship or qualified for NVQ level 2 accompanied with a certificate from City of Guilds and London Institute then you are eligible for this card. It's basically for the Semi-Skilled Worker.

 

GOLD CSCS CARD

This card belongs to the skilled workers who have got an employer-sponsored apprenticeship or SVQ Level 3 accompanied with an Advance Craft Certificate (City and Guilds of London Institute.)

 

GOLD CSCS CARD (SUPERVISOR)

People who have dealt with supervision occupation and achieved the SVQ Level 3 can get this card.

 

WHITE CSCS CARD

This card covers Construction Related Occupation people whose jobs are not listed in any other cards.

 

BLACK CSCS CARD

A person who is into manager or senior manager work and has got around level 4-5 in site management can avail this card.

 

YELLOW/WHITE CSCS CARD (PROFESSIONALLY QUALIFIED PERSON)

Under this card, all those people (consultants, engineers, etc.) come who hold the taking of health and safety responsibilities.

 

YELLOW CSCS CARD (REGULAR VISITOR)

It's a regular visitor card which deals with people who take a visit to the construction site but don't involve as they don't have the required on skill.

 

RED CSCS CARD (TRAINEE)

It's for the students studying in college who have opted for Construction related course or degree or it's for the workers who have not yet got the NVQ level 2-3.

 

RED CARD (GRADUATE)

The card solely belongs to those who have accomplished their construction relates courses from a nationally acclaimed college. The validity stands for total of three years.

 

RED CARD (EXPERIENCED)

In technical, management or supervisory whoever has completed one-year job experience gets the card. It's a temporary one holding validity for three years.

 

RED CARD (EXPERIENCED WORKER)

If a worker has got one year of experience and the required SVQ then they can avail it. It holds a validity of one year. For this card, you will have to go through a CSCS test.
